Welcome to Year 6 with Mrs Tipton, Miss Huckle and Miss Brennand. We are extremely lucky to have the wonderful Mrs Ahmed, Mrs Norton and Mrs Casooji to help us with our learning too.
The new topic for the last half of the summer term is Eco-warriors. During this topic children will learn all about how to care for the environment, looking at issues such as pollution, recycling and deforestation.
Children in Year 6 applied their fabulous understanding of the new grammar terminology to creating SPAG board games. They then tested them out on Year 4.
Have a look at the photos below... very professional game makers!
Year 6 have recently returned from a 3 day residential visit to Hothersall Lodge, an outdoor adventure centre in Longridge. The sun was shining brightly whilst the children went climbing, caving, canoeing and abseiling as well as the children completing archery, team challenges and survival skills. Some children even learnt how to make a bed!! To quote the children the trip was epic! Thank you to the awesome staff at the Lodge who made our time there so enjoyable! You can watch a video of all the pictures here:
During the first half of the summer term children worked hard in preparation for their SATs. We were all very proud of their efforts and await the results in July. Whilst revising, children completed the lights, music action theme which saw them learn all about light and electricity. In computing they learnt about stop motion animation and are creating their very own. Come back soon to see them!
In Spring 2 we looked at the Maya and found out about when they lived. You can see some of the Prezis we made in the computing section to learn more!
Children are studying animals this half term and have been classifying them as well as looking at their habitats and their adaptations.
Children really enjoyed their visit from the animal man. They were all very brave!
In the second half of the term we are looking forward to exploring the ‘Spirit Of Christmas’, focusing on Italian traditions and festivities and learning about Befana.
Children were treated like royalty on their visit to Tiggis Italian restaurant, where they put their pizza making skills to the test. You can see a video of our trip below.
Children in Year 6 have been studying the classic text, Alice in Wonderland'. To celebrate the work in class 6H had a Mad Hatter's Tea Party. Below is a video of some of brilliant hats made at home...
Our topic last half term was 'In Your Element'. We studied rocks, rivers, weather systems such as earthquakes, volcanoes, tornadoes and some of the most famous natural disasters.
We went on a visit to ‘Brockhole’ visitor centre in Windermere to help deepen our understanding of the elements. It was a fab trip and we learnt lots.
