Welcome to Year 5. Our fantastic Year 5 teachers are Miss Young and Mr Jenkins.
The children are doing well and preparation is underway to ready them for life in Year 6 next year.
Well, we are all Eco-warriors now! The children took part in a local litter pick and we were sent a ‘Thank You’ card from a member of the public who lives near Fishwick Bottoms who appreciated the children improving the local environment. We also signed up for the Daily Mail and Keep Britain Tidy campaign on ending plastic pollution. The children now know about sustainability and renewable sources of energy.
Our final topic is called ‘Lights, Camera, Action!’ and is another science and technology topic. We will be learning that light appears to travel in straight lines and
use the idea that light travels in straight lines to explain that objects are seen because they give out or reflect light into the eye. We will also cover why shadows have the same shape as the objects that cast them.
The topic also covers elements of electricity – we will compare and give reasons for variations in how components function, including the brightness of bulbs, the loudness of buzzers and the on/off position of switches. We will investigate the brightness of a lamp or the volume of a buzzer with the number and voltage of cells used in the circuit and use recognized symbols when representing a simple circuit in a diagram.
We will be ready for the summer holidays after this!
Homework is given out on Monday to be returned for the following Monday.
P.E. is on Monday and Thursday – please have kits labelled in school.
Brass instruments have to be in on Tuesday for the music lesson.
Please hear your child read every day and write a comment in their Reading Record.
Please ensure school shoes are worn in class – they can get changed into pumps or trainers for lunchtime if you prefer.
If you have any concerns, please come and see us. We are here to help.
