Miss Young, Mrs Rossall are ably supported by Mrs Lambat and Miss Patel.
The children are doing well and preparation is underway to ready them for life in Y6 in September.
This last half term we have two topics: ‘Location, Location, Location’ and ‘Spaced Out! The first topic is about counties and cities of the United Kingdom and he children will learn about hills, mountains, coasts, rivers. They will Use the eight points of a compass, four-figure grid references, symbols and key to build their knowledge of the United Kingdom and the wider world. They will recognise how and why places are similar to and different from other places in the same country and elsewhere in the world – they will be researching different countries and making models of tourist attractions. We will study the local area using
sketch maps, plans and graphs, and digital technologies.
Our second topic is about Earth and Space – covering the Sun, Earth and Moon, knowing and describing the movement of the Earth relative to the Sun in the solar system. We will use the idea of the Earth’s rotation to explain day and night and the apparent movement of the sun across the sky.
Our literacy topic begins with stories with historical settings – we will be reading ‘Mill Girl’ as a link with the local area.
Homework is given out on Monday to be returned for the following Monday.
P.E. is on Wednesday and Thursday– please have kits labelled in school.
