Welcome to Year 2!
Our classes are called 2C- Miss Coulton and 2H- Miss Hope. We are fortunate to have our experiences TA’s, Mrs Beetham, Miss Richardson, Mrs Ormson and Mrs Henderson, to help us learn!
In Year 2 we learn through lots of ways including drama, play, research and experiences. We want the children to love what they learn and realise how it relates to their own lives.
Our topic this half term is Pirates which is a science and geography based topic. We will be looking at how things move and carrying out science experiments to find out how we can safely move a boat into the sea focussing on movement and materials of different surfaces. We will also looking at the purpose of a map and the different parts that make a map. The children will then make their own map and look at compass points to locate where the treasure is on their maps. We will also be learning pirate songs and exploring the pirate role plays in our classes having lots of pirate fun!
Things to do at home: To continue your children’s learning at home we send home a reading book, library book and homework every week. Please try and read with your children as much as possible, even if it is just 5 minutes, and ask them questions about the book. Little and often will make a huge impact to your children’s love for reading!
