The Curriculum at St. Matthew’s Church of England Primary School
At. St Matthew’s we follow the 2014 National Curriculum in Years 1 to 6 and the Early Year’s Framework in Reception. All year group planning is based on meeting the statutory requirements of the curriculum through a topic-based approach that delivers breadth, depth, balance and progression.
The ethos at St. Matthew’s aims to take into account the background of its pupils and promote the self-esteem and mental well-being of our pupils; by building much of the curriculum around the experience and values that the child brings to the classroom. To further their learning, pupils are provided with as much first-hand experience as possible and Essential Learning Experiences (ELEs) to encourage the development of their language skills and an awareness of their local environment and the local community.
Our aim is to ensure our pupils are receiving an education which is relevant to their needs; which meets the legal requirements; which is exciting and motivating and will provide a progression of skills development.
