"Excellent care, guidance and support ensure pupils feel safe, secure and valued. Pupils of all cultural backgrounds mix happily in this harmonious community and one pupil commented, 'School is like a big family.'"
St. Matthew's prides itself on providing a warm and nurturing learning environment that fosters creativity. As such we deliver a creative curriculum based on a 2 year themely cycle. Themes change every half term in each year group.
All classrooms are bright and inviting with interactive whiteboards. All Early Years and Key Stage 1 classrooms have imaginative and exciting roleplay areas which enhance children's learning experiences and all classes have welcoming reading corners.
The school is well resourced to allow children to become IT literate and keep abreast of technological advances, with an ICT suite, 40 portable netbooks and 42 mini iPads. Children share the work produced in their classes through PhotoStories which are broadcast within school via two large television screens.
In addition we have a cosy but quiet library stocked with a range of books which children can read quietly on the comfy bean bags.
In Key Stage One the phonics scheme we use to assist reading is Letters and Sounds.
